Marko Ingjilizov and Viktoria Panova win the national competition – they will represent the country at the final of the European Money Quiz
Marko Ingjilizov and Viktoria Panova will represent our country at the final of the European Money Quiz, which will be held on 7 May this year in Brussels, Belgium. They are students of Koco Racin high school from Veles and achieved the best results at the national finals held today at the Faculty of Economics at the Ss Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, in the competition against peers from all over the country.
The European Money Quiz is held in our country for the first time, and was attended by over 3,000 primary and secondary school students. Its main goal is financial education for young people aged 13 to 15 years.
The initiator of this competition in our country is the Macedonian Banking Association, which organized the quiz in cooperation with the National Bank, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Marija Stojanoska and Dimitar Dukoski from Blaze Koneski elementary school from Prilep were the first runners up, while Petar Zhivkovikj and Marija Korunovska from Elpida Karamandi elementary school from Bitola won the third place.
At the ceremony announcing the winners of the national competition, Petar Atanasov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, expressed support for the initiative for the European Money Quiz, emphasizing that this way of educating young generations is fully supported by the Ministry, noting that financial literacy is just as important as the other types of education. Atanasov also said, “Particularly pleasing is that children from 13 to 15 years of age are included in the projects, which is a great age for investing in education that can deliver great results in the future”.
Aneta Krstevska, the National Bank’s Chief Economist also greeted the winners. She extended sincere congratulations to all students who took part in the quiz, as well as to their mentors, who actively joined and supported this initiative. Krstevska said, “I believe that we have all together contributed to enriching the knowledge of finance of young generations, which will help them face challenges of the new age easily and successfully”.
Zoran Kolev from Securities and Exchange Commission, also welcomed the participation of our country in this important project of the European Banking Federation, emphasizing the importance of young people understanding the capital market and its functioning. “The more young people are educated about finance, the more businesses they start or financial decisions they make in the future will be successful. Therefore, education system and financial institutions need to educate children from the earliest age about finances, managing personal finances, and that savings can help achieve certain financial goals in life” – stressed Kolev.
Kosta Mitrovski, President of the Macedonian Banking Association, presented the awards to the winners of the national competition. “It is a great pleasure to have such an extensive project successfully implemented. Knowledge of banking and finance is extremely important for the economic stability of every individual, family and its acquisition as early as possible is particularly important. I am especially proud that the MBA initiated and finalized this competition in its first year, which I hope will become a tradition. We congratulate the winners and look forward to good news from the finals in Brussels”, Mitrovski said.
